Go to Top Sunday 7 July 2024 - Day One

The forecast hadn't been promising earlier in the week, but by Sunday afternoon it suggested things would improve, so we packed ready for a cruise that I planned would take us to South Walsham Broad.

River Ant, Wayford

We didn't manage to cast off till well into the afternoon, but by 15:24 Singing the Blues was out of Long Dyke and onto the River Ant.

Hunsett Mill

We were soon at Hunsett Mill. The pump just upstream of the mill was working hard at draining the local marshes.

Hunsett Mill

I really must do something about my seemingly pathological desire to photograph the mill every time we pass it.

Barton Broad

By 15:53 we were entering Barton Broad. We'd booked a table at the White Horse at Neatishead and the worry was that, approaching the height of the holiday season, the moorings at the village staithe would be full.

Neatishead Staithe

By 16:20 we were moored at the village staithe. There were just a couple of spaces left. We chose the one we had used on our first overnight cruise, Last October. We had time to relax a make a cup of tea before, at 17:44, we strolled slowly to the White Horse Inn.

Food and the White Horse, Neatishead

Surprisingly, we both ordered the same dish.

men's urinal

I discovered a new game to play in toilets.

White Horse Inn

We emerged from the pub at 19:45 to discover there had been a heavy shower while we had been at the pub, but the sun was now shining brightly again.

Neatishead Community Shop

Just across the junction from the pub is the Community Shop where we enjoyed Breakfast back in May

Neatishead Staithe Noticeboard

I know this shows my nerdy nature, but I'm always intrigued by parish council web and email addresses. Why didn't those who manage the "norfolkparishes" sub-domain disallow the "pc" unnecessarily added to the name village name in the web address. Why does the council use an @btinternet.com email address when they have access to an appropriate .gov.uk domain name?
